What do you need to get into Aspen's nursing programmes?
Aspen's online nursing programmes are post-licensure, which means an active, unencumbered RN licence is the fundamental requirement. The campus-based pre-licensure BSN, which trained people to become nurses in the first place, has closed — so Aspen is not a route into nursing for someone who is not already a nurse.
The distinction that catches people out
Post-licensure means you already hold a licence and are adding a qualification: RN to BSN, MSN, the RN to MSN bridge, or the DNP. Pre-licensure means you are training to sit the NCLEX for the first time.
Aspen no longer offers the latter. If you are looking for a first nursing qualification, you need a pre-licensure ADN or BSN elsewhere, and NCLEX pass rate should be at the top of your criteria when you choose one.
What to have ready
Your licence details, transcripts from everywhere you have studied, and any documentation for credit you want assessed — including programmes you did not finish and employer training carrying credit recommendations.
Do the transfer assessment before agreeing to a payment schedule. Credit granted reduces the programme total, and because the monthly plan runs until that total is met, it reduces the number of payments too.
If you are heading for a graduate route with a practicum, begin thinking about a clinical site and preceptor early. Aspen does not secure placements for you.
