Can you transfer Aspen credits somewhere else?
Sometimes, and it depends entirely on the receiving institution. Aspen is accredited by the DEAC, which is a national accreditor. Regionally accredited universities each set their own policy on accepting nationally accredited credit: many accept it, some decline it outright, and there is no central rule or appeal.
Why this is the question that decides Aspen
Everything else about Aspen — the price, the eight-week courses, the monthly plan — is straightforwardly good or straightforwardly a trade-off. This one is different, because it cannot be fixed after the fact.
If you enrol, complete a programme and then discover the university you want next will not take it, there is no remedy. You either repeat work or change your plan.
How to settle it before enrolling
Write down the two or three institutions you might realistically attend afterwards. Email each admissions office one question: do you accept a degree from a DEAC-accredited institution for admission to this programme?
Ask for the answer in writing. Policies change and staff turn over, and a dated email is worth more than a remembered phone call.
If every answer is yes, Aspen's price advantage stands unchallenged. If any answer is no and that school mattered, you have saved yourself several years of payments for the cost of an afternoon.
